Nothing prime for Amazon in The Big Apple

The fallout from Amazon’s decision to walk away from its planned headquarters in New York is ratcheting up after a company spokesman publicly blasted Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other lawmakers, saying they had made it a hostile environment to do business.

Writer. In the summers, I live and work in the incredible state of Alaska, in the bush community of McCarthy, as the Executive Director of the Wrangell Mountain Center. When not in McCarthy, you'll typically find me in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, writing and working with local activists. My primary writing project right now is a novel set in remote bush Alaska, of the magical realism genre wherein an earnest and independent young woman finds a mysterious radio belonging to her grandmother, a device that has paranormal bandwidth and a disturbing ability to mess with one's mental stability.

  1. Really short vid, great bit by Stephen Colbert on the Amazon sitch.

Note for my socialist (or socialist curious) friends: I’m sure that like me you honed in on the Amazon as monopoly thing/fact. To me, the monopolies in the tech industry seem to point to a rather ironical/paradoxical/contradictory element of the mechanics of capitalism, i.e., that unregulated modern markets quickly become organized into monopolies, many of which have strange and disturbing similarities to the operations and organization of a cartel or other forms of organized crime. I’ve always been intrigued by the parallels that I see with capitalism when I watch The Godfather and other gangster flicks.
