The other day I was on my walk back to the cabin, returning from town on the hour long commute. I saw a moose moving fast, parallel to me, just in the woods. He stopped to look at me and I snapped this quick pic with my phone. I should have perhaps thought more closely about why the moose was running fast but it was late and I was enjoying the walk.
The moose kept going, at a fast jog and it wasn’t long before I learned why the moose was running. It was a grizzly. The bear seemed annoyed by me and did a few false charges. I had my bear spray but he left before things got serious. I didn’t have the nerve to try to snap the grizzly bear’s pic.
Wow, scary!!!!

Yes. It’s always a wee bit terrifying to see those big guys when they get huffy.

WordPress shows me that there is balance in all things including bears! Saw this today just after reading your comment.

Good article. Thanks for that. It’s good for for thought. Like the author I tend to see bears as relatively peaceful, at least as compared to human beings. Killing for the sheer sport of it seems relatively rare in the non human world, though it does occur. I don’t want to suggest some idyllic or overly romanticized view of nature, I’m just sympathetic to the author’s perspective and criticism of human kind’s many abuses of power….And as the piece suggests, bears are unique and bears have mood swings, etc. You just don’t want to be on their bad side on a bad day.
Any bear encounters for you?

Glad you liked it! I was equally fascinated by your scary encounter as by her non scary one. We don’t have any animals to compare with that in the UK so it’s interesting. I have never been anywhere with bears so no encounters for me!
